Week #99 = Rollin’ Strong, 2020 Vision

CRAFTY 99
This is Week #99 of my cancer journey and I continue to be the most fortunate cancer-fighter you’ve ever known. All continues to go incredibly well for me on the health front. I’ll start my new ‘maintenance’ chemo program next week and we expect this should be easier for me to handle than the past schedules. I’ll be fitting chemo treatments in around my regular activities over the next 2-3 months. This is what living with cancer can look like today.

CONQUER 2020
We keep rollin’ for cancer research. Here’s the plan for our “CONQUER 2020” bike ride with Sonoma County Backroad Challenge, Petaluma Rotary and Conquer Cancer Foundation. All systems are go for our Year 3! The cycling event and festival will be on Saturday, May 16th, 2020 in Penngrove, CA. Please save the date. We invite you all to join us and consider forming a team for your family or company to honor or remember the cancer-fighters close to you. Between now and then, we will be ramping up our team recruiting and fundraising. Our goal is to have a 20 teams on the road next year, raising $20k each, for Conquer Cancer. (See what we did there? 20-20 in 2020 … ) If your company supports non-profit causes and offers donation matching, a corporate team of 4-6 riders should be able to easily reach the $20k goal.

Conquer Cancer’s mission is to make a cancer diagnosis less scary, for every patient, everywhere. The funds we raise for Conquer help cancer researchers worldwide who are working on breakthrough solutions for ALL types of cancer. Recently, Conquer provided this funding scale to show us how our donations can forward their mission:
= $60,000 can support one year of research
= $30,000 can support six months of research
= $10,000 can support two months of research
= $5,000 can support one month of research

In our past 2 years of riding and fundraising in the Backroad Challenge, we have raised close to $40,000 for worldwide cancer research. Thanks to all our donors! Salesforce Ohana, Team Crafty and Team Girvan will be out there again in 2020. If you or your company would like to join us for 2020, please reach out directly and we’ll get you onboard and rolling.

Week #99 Pix
MM @ SFS MTT
Mady and I had a chance to get to the city for the big MTT symphony event. It was a really special nite, hosted by great friends who really rolled out the red/pink carpet for us. We put the big C behind us and enjoyed the music. Thanks so much Michael & Holly!
Rolling around PTown
My e-bike continues to be an important part of my healthcare and I’m now rolling toward 1300 miles. My Deadpool shirts also continue to be a source of good laughs for friends and professionals in the cancer community. To my knowledge, he’s the only super hero that’s taken on Stage IV cancer. I have lost count of how many UCSF technicians and nurses have given me high-fives when seeing that (or Superman) in the hallways down at the cancer center.
Jim Allison: Breakthrough = new movie coming 9/27
This film will be a must-see for anyone and everyone in the cancer community. Jim is the 2018 Nobel Prize winner who discovered the immune system’s role in defeating cancer. For all of us battling cancer, Jim is a true hero who has unlocked the future of cancer medicine. Look for this film in theaters at the end of this month. It will inspire hope for us all.

Thanks for all your support from near and far.
Get educated. Get screened. Support cancer research.
Keep rollin’,
Crafty

I am a Stage IV cancer survivor with a very hopeful and amazing story. Surgery, chemo, radiation … I’ve have been through it all during 44+ months of treatment. Now, I am a UCSF clinical trial patient loaded with “Terminator” T-cells which may provide a major breakthrough for colorectal, colon, liver, lung, and head & neck cancers. Amazing things are always possible!
